Multiple species atom source for laser-cooling experiments

چکیده
We describe the design of a single beam, multiple species atom source in which the flux of any component can be separately adjusted. Using this design we have developed a Na–Li atom source for ultracold atom experiments. The fluxes of lithium and sodium are independently tunable, allowing operation as a single Na or Li source as well as a double source with equal atomic fluxes in each component. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. Atom lithography with laser-cooled silicon atoms
An all-solid-state 252 nm coherent light source with external cavities for laser cooling silicon atoms using twostage highly efficient frequency conversions has been developed. With the coherent light source, it is possible to manipulate the atomic motion of the silicon atoms, which is necessary for nano-process applications. In this paper, deflection, collimation, and axial velocity selection ...
متن کاملTrapping and Manipulation of Laser-Cooled Metastable Argon Atoms at a Surface
This thesis discusses experiments on the all-optical trapping and manipulation of lasercooled metastable argon atoms at a surface. A magneto-optical surface trap (MOST) has been realized and studied. This novel hybrid trap combines a magneto-optical trap at a metallic surface with an optical evanescent-wave atom mirror. It allows laser-cooling and trapping of atoms in contact with an evanescent...
متن کاملAn all-solid-state laser source at 671 nm for cold atom experiments with lithium
We present an all solid-state narrow linewidth laser source emitting 670mW output power at 671 nm delivered in a diffraction-limited beam. The source is based on a frequency-doubled diode-endpumped ring laser operating on the F 3/2 → I13/2 transition in Nd:YVO4. By using periodically-poled potassium titanyl phosphate (ppKTP) in an external buildup cavity, doubling efficiencies of up to 86% are ...
متن کاملLaser-Cooled Ions and Atoms in a Storage Ring
We review recent experiments at the Heidelberg Test Storage Ring which apply advanced laser cooling techniques to stored ion beams. Very high phase-space densities are achieved by threedimensional laser cooling of a coasting 9Be+ beam at 7.3 MeV. Laser-cooled, trapped Cs atoms are used as an ultracold precision target for the study of ion–atom interactions with a 74 MeV beam of 12C6+ ions.
متن کاملLaser cooling to the zero-point energy of motion.
The subject of laser cooling of ions and neutral atoms is currently of great experimental and theoretical interest. ' It has been applied to high-resolution spectroscopy, low-energy collisions, quantum jumps, and photon antibunching. In all cooling experiments done so far, the oscillation frequency co, of the particle in its confining well was less than the linewidth I of the cooling transition...
